Wrist pain
Copper and magnetic bracelets have been around for quite some time, but the practice of wearing them for arthritis relief began in the 1970’s. Since then, no conclusive evidence has been provided regarding their efficacy. Now, one study indicates that the usage of such bracelets is completely ineffective at relieving or preventing arthritis.
The study included seventy people with rheumatoid arthritis symptoms that were monitored over a five month period. Participants wore copper and magnetic bracelets, some of which were either weakened or demagnetized to provide for a control group. At the end of the period, all participants reported the absence of any relief from their pain and symptoms.
Any prior evidence of copper and magnetic bracelet efficacy has been purely anecdotal. Most people heard from someone who has a friend that found relief from them. The truth of the matter is, the science behind such “remedies” is quite unfounded when examined in a logical manner. Arthritis is the inflammation in and around joint areas, which can lead to their degradation and thus pain. Metal or magnets have no direct influence on the internal workings of your joints, therefore one should expect to see no benefit.
People who suffer from arthritis should consult their doctor for the most appropriate means of treatment. Money can be better spent on supplements for joint pain and other such scientifically proven treatments, than on gimmicky, quick-fixes like these bracelets.
